Specialist Behaviour Support

What is positive behaviour support? Positive behaviour support: • helps you have a good quality of life • is a proven way of understanding and changing behaviour • focuses on you and the people around you • values and protects your rights • guides people about how to best support you • makes changes to the environment so that it meets your needs • helps to put in place the right supports at the right times and places • does not use punishment or strategies that can hurt you. PBS emphasises identifying a person's strengths, areas for skill development, and modifying the environment to facilitate communication and socially appropriate interaction. At My Future My Way, our behaviour support is underpinned by our foundational knowledge and experience in neurodevelopmental disabilities, attachment, trauma impact, and other developmental challenges. My Future My Way specialises working within neurobiology framework using neuroplasticity (or brain plasticity) to change its structure and function based on experiences, behaviours, emotions, and thoughts. As the brain development progresses through stages that include neurogenesis, neural migration, maturation, synaptogenesis, pruning, and myelin formation, various environmental factors influence brain development and function, such as sensory stimuli, psychoactive drugs, gonadal hormones, parent-child relationships, interpersonal relationships, early childhood stress, and diet. Our brain forms neuronal connections based on our repetitive actions, both good and bad. Changing a person's behaviour involves altering their brain. Current neurobiology science demonstrates that we can change our behaviours, even ingrained habits, by creating alternative pathways in our brains. All My Future My Way therapists are highly trained to influence the development of long lasting neuropathways to bring the positive changes. My Future My Way values commitment to provide support that promotes inclusion, choice, participation, and equal opportunity. Guided by a contemporary neurobiology framework, our practitioners deliver high-quality positive behaviour support to participants through these principles: • Person-centred: ensuring the person is always the focus. • Partnership: collaborating with participants and their support network to shape the process. • Planned: developing a clear, positive Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) for shared understanding and accountability. • Positive: emphasising preventive measures rather than solely reactive responses. • Purposeful: utilising a Functional Behaviour Assessment to understand behaviour reasons. • Process-driven: following a procedure of identifying, assessing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating data. • Trauma-informed: comprehending the impact of trauma on behaviours, emotions, and relationships with others, and recognising that a significant number of people living with mental health conditions have experienced trauma.
